Life story
Gulaliyev Abbas Musakhan oglu was born on March 15, 1954, in the village of Shyxzarly, an ancient settlement in the Gobustan region of Shamakhi district, in the family of the renowned master Musakhan Gulaliyev. From a young age, he showed interest in this art form and studied under his father, Musakhan. Up until 1976, he was known as a khananda and participated in folk celebrations, and from 1976, as an ashik, he took part in weddings and state events, becoming one of the most recognized and distinguished ashiks of his time with his unique voice and instrumental performance. He was a winner of many state-level word-music art competitions. The first musical center in the village of Shyxzarly was founded by Musakhan’s house, where many renowned ashiks and musicians received their training.
Ashik Abbas is also considered a creative ashik, and his poems, today, are beautifully performed at home celebrations. His talent and dedication to the art made him famous not only among the people but also at the state level. Abbas won numerous competitions in the art of ashik and saz, bringing fame to himself and his native village of Shyxzarly. It was in this village, in the musical center created by his father, that many prominent ashiks and musicians were educated and continued the traditions.
Abbas was not only a talented musician but also a patriotic person dedicated to his culture. By working as the director of the cultural house in his native village, he contributed to the development of local culture and the upbringing of new generations. For his dedication to the art and his contributions, he was honored with the title of "Honored Cultural Worker" by the President of Azerbaijan in 2019.
Abbas Gulaliyev was not only a talented saz master and artist but also a person with a big heart. In his family, he was always distinguished by his care and kindness. As a father, he was very attached to his children and filled with love for them. Despite the loss of his first son, he continued to support his three daughters and three sons, surrounding them with attention and warmth. Abbas was an example for his family and instilled in them a love for music, traditions, and compassion.
His kindness and open heart were known not only within his family but also among the village community and everyone who knew him. Abbas never said no to anyone who sought his help. He was always ready to share his experience and knowledge, teach music, or simply offer friendly advice. His good nature and simplicity earned him great respect and love among the people. Everyone who met Abbas felt his sincerity and willingness to help.
His home was always open to guests, and he delighted those around him not only with his art but also with his warmth. His words and music inspired people, and his openness made him a beloved and respected figure in the village. Regardless of status and achievements, Abbas Gulaliyev remained humble and understanding, caring about the well-being of others and genuinely rejoicing in their successes.
Memories of his kindness and benevolence live on in the hearts of those who knew him as a friend, colleague, teacher, and simply as a person. Every action of his was filled with love and respect for people. Unfortunately, due to health problems caused by high blood pressure, he passed away on September 13, 2023, from a heart attack. His loss was a great blow to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him as a dedicated cultural worker and kind person. Abbas was buried in his native village of Shyxzarly and left a bright mark in the memory of the people.
The memory of Gulaliyev Abbas Musakhan oglu will live on in his songs, his life path, and in the hearts of those who knew and appreciated his art.
